My Favourite Holidays
Globus Sights and Sounds - 2016
Travelling from Memphis to Atlanta and getting to visit Graceland, Nashville, the Grand Ole Opry, Country Music Hall of Fame and Dollywood were highlights this fantastic tour. A lovely Surprise was the Vanderbilt Estate, something I had never heard of but could have spend more time discovering the beautiful grounds set against the backdrop of the Smokey Mountains. I can highly recommend this tour to anyone who is interested in the Blues and Country Music.
Alaska and Hawaii
Fire and Ice - A trip to Alaska with a stopover in Hawaii. I Love Honolulu it is one of my favourite easy getaway destinations and now that Hawaiian and Air New Zealand have direct flights it is such a great place to go for a week's holiday. The shopping is fantastic, combined with great beaches it has something for everyone. Then after an nice few days in the sunshine we headed up to the top of Alaska and took a Globus Coach tour from Fairbanks to Seaward. For wildlife you cannot beat Alaska. To stand a metre away from a moose and watch otters, puffins and whales in an afternoon's boat ride is a pretty spectacular experience then add in some stunning scenery and fantastic down to earth people and you have a pretty fantastic holiday. The highlight of my trip however was seeing the Northern Lights in Denali, this is a spectacular event that I hope every gets the chance to see at least once in there life.
Tahiti 2014
In 2014 I visited the Islands of Tahiti. I dined at the Roulette's in Papeete, swam with shark's and sting rays in in Moorea and dined next to Rock Star's in Bora Bora. I think that Bora Bora is a bucket list destination. The water is just spectacular with the endless blue going on forever. It is definitely a place where you come back feeling relaxed and refreshed and are planning your next trip back before you have left.
South America - April 2012
I was lucky enough last year to travel to Peru and up into the Amazon. I spent allot of time in Peru where some highlights were eating Guinea Pig in Cusco; checking out a Chocolate Festival in Lima, and shopping everywhere!!, we then went up the Peruvian Amazon. In the Amazon we saw Cayman’s; Fed Piranhas and went inside some the biggest trees I have ever seen. The mix of Local South America culture and ruins combined with the influence of the Spanish gives the cities a very distinct feel and I loved the way that all the towns were built around a town square where it was great to sit in the afternoon with a Picso Sour and watch the people. The Absolute highlight for me was Macchu Picchu, as you would expect this is an awe inspiring place. It was exactly like the pictures but then so much more. When you see up close all the amazing detail of these ancient ruins and how they designed it, it is pretty amazing but what blew me away was where it was, it is called the city of clouds for a reason and just a fantastic place. This was an amazing trip and I cannot wait to go back and explore more of South America as there is so much more to see.
Kermadec Island - April 2011
The most remote untouched place that I have travelled to is the Kermadec Islands, the main Island is called Raoul Island and is inhabited by 8 doc workers, it is a marine reserve and the Diving and snorkeling was phenomenal. We went from Tauranga with Heritage Expeditions and it was a 2 day boat ride up to Raoul Island where the days were spent out on deck watching Birds and Marine Life, and listening to their Marine, Bird and Photography experts, so we were well informed and ready to take great photo’s by the time we arrived on Raoul, we got to see a pod of dolphins and flying Squid. We then arrived at Raoul where we were met by the Doc Volunteers who were very welcoming as new faces was always nice for them. We then spend the day exploring the Island, where there was some great walks, the next few days were spent snorkeling and on the island exploring or Diving for the Divers. The Snorkeling was amazing absolutely the best I have seen, this untouched Marine Reserve in the middle of the Pacific had abundant sea life, the most exciting being the Galapagos sharks. It took us a day to get back to Tauranga. I really enjoyed going somewhere so remote and touched and would recommend this to anyone who go the opportunity to go.
Vietnam & Cambodia - November 2010
Vietnam and Cambodia were a fantastic places to visit. We went to Cambodia first were we spent time exploring the Angkor Wat temples which have a long and interesting history, the intricate carvings and amount of men (and women??) that it would have taken to make these temples is still something I cannot even comprehend. I loved seeing all the drawings and hearing the stories that went with them, I also went on my first elephant ride around the temples which was lots of fun. The people in Cambodia were just Beautiful so friendly and so lovely a real testament to the less people have the more they give. We then headed into Vietnam where I went shopping in Hoi An – a must for anyone wanting a new wardrobe and to do some bartering, and then down to Saigon where we visited the Cu Chi tunnels and the Saigon war Museum, which was a simple but poignant reminder of the horrors and terrors of war, but really worth seeing to get a better understanding of what went on, once again the people were amazing, friendly and fun. The highlight of Vietnam for me was the food, The food was amazing, BBQ and Pho Noodles and Fresh make your own spring rolls in a café in the middle of nowhere this was what set Vietnam apart for me and I can’t wait to go back and taste more the great food they have to offer.
