HAWAII SEP/OCT 2019
I have recently returned from a family holiday to O'ahu, Hawaii! Wow what a destination - from the beachy culture to the big shopping aspect!
Highlights included hiking to the summit of the Diamond Head Crater, visiting Pearl Harbour with the bonus of experiencing the U.S.S Bowin Submarine too. We were also very lucky to have a couple of day trips – one being the Circle Island Tour which took us out of fast paced Waikiki and into the true blue Hawaii as you would imagine it! The other day tour we participated in was a visit to Kualoa Ranch which is where a lot of movies have been made, such as Jurassic Park, Jurassic World & 50 First Dates just to name a few. What a fascinating place, not just for being the back drop for these movies but for their sustainable recreational, agricultural & aquacultural practises. Kualoa is also a working cattle ranch.
Our last night in Hawaii we were treated to a Luau which is a Hawaiian party or feast. There are several Luaus on O’ahu but we chose Paradise Cove which is an approx. 1hr drive from Waikiki and well worth it! There were games to participate in, hula dancing, Hawaiian music & of course the feast of Kalua Pig! Picture all of this on the beachfront at sunset – it was truly magical!

JAPAN & SOUTH KOREA JUL 2018
Japan truly left me speechless! I loved how orderly, clean and safe it was. The people, the food, the culture – what’s not to love! Part of our travel was a Costa Cruise up the West Coast of Japan and into South Korea. This was fascinating and was great to experience Japan outside of the large cities. Busan in South Korea is a wonderful mix of the new and traditional.
An absolute highlight for me back in the big city was go carting on the streets of Tokyo dressed as the characters of Mario Kart – not for the faint hearted but worth every cent!
UK MAR 2018
In 2018 I toured through the Heart of England with Backroad Tours and experienced first hand some of the beautiful English countryside. This trip allowed for a quick stopover in Hong Kong which is an incredibly easy spot to break up your journey. I will definitely be back to explore some more.
Although I had visited London previously, I had never experienced literally the “backroads of England”. This small group touring concept really is a fantastic option to take you off the main motorways and get into the nitty gritty of this history rich country. We were lucky enough to have some snow whilst travelling. Imagine the famous Cotswold area with snow! Amazing!! A once in a lifetime opportunity. My favourite, definitely the Roman city of Bath!
NEW CALEDONIA OCT 2017
Wow what an incredible Family holiday that we will cherish forever! New Caledonia is sooooo much more than just the city of Noumea that most of us think of. We hired a car and travelled around the main island of Grand Terre. What I didn’t anticipate was the lack of English while outside of the metropolis of Noumea. This was in fact the main reason why I loved this holiday. My daughter and husband knew a little French from school and I was forever grateful for this. We actually had to learn the language to get by. From top to bottom, the main island took about 8 hours to drive, which shows how large it really is.
Although we were driving on the other side of the road, it wasn’t stressful and the roads were really good. I recommend New Caledonia to anyone who wants to get off the beaten track a bit! At times we were literally the only foreigners around. A standout moment for me was punting us and our rental car across the river on the “main road” up North. Absolutely no one else around and I think the operator was quite shocked that we were there. We didn’t understand each other but his wide grin will be with me always.
THAILAND MAY 2017
A girls trip to Thailand! Say no more! What goes on in Thailand stays in Thailand. But really, Wow what an experience. One of the most popular locations being Phuket, an island destination with the best of both worlds – shopping & nightlife combined with history and traditions. This was my second trip to Thailand and I was not let down. The people are so very friendly and will do anything to help. A wee tip -try to get off the beaten track and travel as the locals do! We caught the open aired bus through to Phuket Town and although it was certainly an eye opener, it was one of the things that I remember fondly about the trip.
